Charging
Charging is easy – electric boats can be recharged from a
domestic 13-amp or public 16-amp socket. Many
boatyards have charging points so the batteries can be charged at the home
mooring, or at moorings around the Broads on a cruise.
On the northern Broads there are public charging points at Stalham,
Horning, Ludham Bridge, Potter Heigham, Coltishall and Hickling.
The time taken to recharge depends on the battery capacity and the
size of the charger. For Moonglow,
with
a relatively small charger (25 amp), it takes roughly 2 hours of charging for
one hour of cruising. A larger
charger could halve this time. Electricity
is very cheap and costs less than £1 for a full charge - about 12 hours of
cruising. The amount of time you can travel on a charge depends on your speed.
If you want a longer range from one charge then you can install more
batteries.
