Converting to electric

Any boat with a reasonably sharp bow, smooth stern and space for the batteries would be suitable for conversion, including motor cruisers, yachts (auxiliary engine) and day boats. Some larger, wide-beam boats would need so much power and so many batteries that it would not be economic to convert.

Various parts are needed to convert.  The work would be done by a boatyard. Once converted, keeping your batteries charged is straightforward.

The cost of conversion is very variable, but if your boat is registered on the Broads, you may be eligible for a grant towards the cost of conversion.

To find out more you can see boats that have already been converted and talk to their owners. For more technical details, you can download PDF documents on Electrifying your boat and Hull design
