Grants

Funds are available over a two-year period.

Eligibility

If your boat:

• is  registered on the Broads
• has an inboard diesel or petrol engine
• has a reasonably shaped hull

you could be eligible for a grant of £2,000 towards the cost of installing an inboard electric engine.

Number of grants available

The number of applicants is likely to exceed the number of grants available. In the first year eight grants will be offered: five for cruisers over 20 feet, two for auxiliary yachts and one for boats 20 feet and under. Ten grants will be made in the second year.

Boats will be chosen in these categories, with the selection for the first year being made at the end of May 2004. A reserve list will be kept.

Receiving the grant

The grant will be paid to owners after the work has been done, provided the following conditions are met:

• The power unit recommended by Andrew Wolstenholme  has been installed.
• The work must be certified by a surveyor as meeting the standards of the Boat Safety Scheme.
• You must be willing to show your boat to anyone who might want to have theirs converted, and to have your boat featured on this website.
• If possible, you must bring your boat to local boat shows where electric boats are on display.
• You must provide details of the installation, with costs, when the work is complete, for inclusion on a database to be held on the website of the Electric Boat Association.
